Personal Profile‌ of Wang Weiming


Wang Weiming, a native of Jiangxi Province, is Professor and Doctoral Supervisor in the Department of Journalism, School of Journalism and Communication, Nanchang University. He holds a PhD in Journalism from the Communication University of China. He serves as a judge for the China Journalism Award, also is a member of the Chinese Association for Communication Studies, and a founding Executive Council Member of the Applied Journalism and Communication Research Committee of the Chinese Society of Journalism History. He is also an Expert Consultant at the Institute of Family Education Research, Nanchang Institute of Applied Technology Teachers College.

He has previously worked as a reporter, editor, commentator, and academic consultant for multiple media organizations, and has published more than 260 commentaries in major media outlets including Peoples Daily. He has also served as an invited author, peer reviewer, or editorial board member for more than 20 institutions, including China Publishing Journal, Chinese Journalists, Peoples Daily Press, Beijing Normal University Press, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology Press.

His primary research interests include political communication, family communication, and philanthropic communication, while also engaging in studies of journalism history, Party newspaper theory, and new media. As of December 2025, he has completed two projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China and several provincial-level research projects. He has published over 200 academic papers in publicly available journals such as China Publishing and Chinese Journal of Journalism & Communication Studies.

He has authored or edited 29 books, including Introduction to Family Communication, Philanthropic Communication: History, Theory, and Practice, New Perspectives on the Positioning and Functions of Party Newspapers, Mission and Responsibility: New Perspectives on the Role of Party Newspapers, Health Communication in the Internet Era, Campus Journalism Practice Manual (2nd Edition), A Comprehensive Guide to News Writing and Reporting for Correspondents (2nd Edition), and Advanced Practices in News Gathering and Editing.

He teaches undergraduate courses such as Introduction to Communication Studies, News Commentary, Financial Journalism, Public Relations, Media Management and Operations, and Media Law and Journalism Ethics, as well as postgraduate courses including Frontiers of Journalism and Communication Studies and Guided Readings of Classic Works in Journalism and Communication. He has been honored as an Outstanding Teaching Modelat Nanchang University.

He has been invited to provide lectures, evaluation, and examination services for more than 100 institutions, including the Ministry of Agriculture of China, Jiangxi Daily, China University of Mining and Technology, and Beijing Union University. His professional achievements have received multiple awards, including the Second Prize of the Jiangxi Provincial Award for Outstanding Achievements in Social Sciences, First Prize of the Jiangxi Provincial Excellent Textbook Award, Third Prize of the Jiangxi Journalism Award, and First Prize of the Jiangxi Provincial Teaching Achievement Award for Higher Education.
