Brief Introduction to Research Bases of the School of Journalism and Communication

Central Soviet Area Red Culture Communication Research Center

The Central Soviet Area Red Culture Communication Research Center was approved at the end of October 2022, with the purpose of promoting revolutionary culture and inheriting the red gene. Based on the two first-level disciplines of Journalism and Communication, and Drama and Film Studies offered by the school, the center leverages the first-level discipline doctoral program in Journalism and Communication, as well as master's programs in Journalism, Communication, and Broadcasting and Television Arts, as its construction platforms. It is linked through major projects of the National Social Science Fund, key projects of the National Social Science Fund, and commissioned projects of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee. The center integrates the construction of first-class disciplines, cultivation of innovative talents, development of innovative teams of the Ministry of Education, and the establishment of emerging interdisciplinary fields as its integration goals, promoting distinctive development through differentiated competition. The center also fully utilizes the functions of two platforms—the Research Society on the Development History of Party Newspapers and Periodicals under the Chinese Association for History of Journalism and Mass Communication, and the Alliance for Red Culture Inheritance and Marxist Journalism Education—to drive in-depth research on red culture communication in the national Central Soviet Area. The center has been approved for several major provincial-level projects, published multiple papers in authoritative journals such as Journalism & Communication Research, hosted high-level academic conferences, and published numerous reports. It has achieved excellent results in project development, paper output, academic exchange, and social contribution.

Public Opinion Monitoring and Governance Research Center

Established in 2015 as a key research base for philosophy and social sciences in Jiangxi Province, this research center serves a dual function of academic research and policy advisory services. Since its inception, it has conducted continuous academic exploration and in-depth social services in areas such as news development, online information dissemination, public opinion guidance pathways, and public opinion response strategies. The center has led the completion of major projects, key projects, and general projects of the National Social Science Fund, specially commissioned projects by the Publicity Department of the Central Committee, specially commissioned projects by the Publicity and Education Bureau of the Central Committee, and specially commissioned projects by the Organization Department of the Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee. It has published representative research outputs through People's Publishing House, China Social Sciences Press, as well as in journals such as Qiushi, Journalism & Communication Research, Studies on Marxism, International Journalism, Modern Communication, Journalism University, and Guangming Daily. Some papers have been reprinted by Xinhua Digest, China Social Sciences Digest, and the Replica Materials of the Information Center for Social Sciences of Renmin University of China. The center has received more than 10 awards, including the Jiangxi Provincial Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award and the Jiangxi University Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award. A number of in-depth social public opinion research reports have received approvals or adoptions from the Publicity Department of the Central Committee and the Publicity Department of the Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee. Its participation in decision-making consultation and social services has been fully recognized by institutions such as the Cyberspace Administration of China, the Cyberspace Administration of Jiangxi Province, and the Jiangxi Provincial Administration for Market Regulation.

Jiangxi Media Convergence Development Research Center

In May 2020, the Publicity Department of the Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee and the Education and Working Committee of the Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee established the key new think tank "Jiangxi Media Convergence Development Research Center," jointly constructed by the Publicity Department of the Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee, the Education and Working Committee of the Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee, and Nanchang University, with its administrative affiliation under the School of Journalism and Communication. The center aims to serve the Party committee and government in media convergence development, with main research directions focused on policy consultation related to media convergence development. It conducts forward-looking and strategic research on major theoretical and practical issues concerning the province's news publicity and media convergence development, and proposes policy recommendations to provide intellectual support for the scientific decision-making of the provincial Party committee and government regarding media convergence development. The center regularly compiles and distributes the Media Convergence Development Dynamics briefing, submitted to the leadership and relevant departments of the Publicity Department of the Provincial Party Committee, to provide references for decision-making in promoting news publicity and media convergence development. Under the working framework of "the Provincial Party Committee's Publicity Department posing questions, and the research center providing solutions," the center has conducted investigations and research on various major practical topics, including "promoting the in-depth development of media convergence in Jiangxi Province," "evaluation and innovation of news release effectiveness in Jiangxi Province," "international communication pathways for Jiangxi's overseas news under new circumstances," "public opinion guidance in public emergencies under the all-media communication environment," and "efficient integration and utilization of provincial-level media convergence resources." The center has led the completion of nearly 20 related projects, produced 28 consultation reports, received 6 approvals or directives from provincial-level or higher leaders, and obtained more than 60 policy adoptions, effectively fulfilling its responsibility of serving local economic and social development.

Jiangxi University International Communication Research Center

The Jiangxi University International Communication Research Center was established in June 2024, under the guidance of the Education and Working Committee of the Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee and the Department of Education of Jiangxi Province, and constructed and managed by Nanchang University. The center aims to strengthen the international communication capacity of universities in Jiangxi, striving to build "three high grounds" for international communication theoretical research, talent cultivation, and innovative practice in Jiangxi, enhance Jiangxi's international influence in education, and contribute Jiangxi's educational wisdom and strength to improving international communication effectiveness. The center's inaugural group of more than 30 researchers comes from major universities in the province, including Nanchang University, Jiangxi Normal University, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, Jiangxi University of Chinese Medicine, Gannan Normal University, Jiangxi University of Water Resources and Hydropower, and Jingdezhen Ceramic University. Since its establishment, the center has been approved for 2 projects of the National Social Science Fund and more than 10 provincial-level projects, published more than 10 papers and monographs, hosted 3 national academic conferences, and invited more than 20 domestic experts to deliver high-level academic lectures at the center.
